My Fundraising Story: Melissa Adams

Thursday 24 April 2025

Melissa is running the London Marathon 2025 for the BDA in memory of her beautiful daughter, Jaiden Blondell.

"I chose to support the BDA by running the 2025 London Marathon in memory of my daughter Jaiden Blondell. Jaiden unexpectedly passed away a week before her 21st birthday due to suffering a fatal bronchial spasm and Anaphylaxis episode on her way home from work in 2023.

Despite Jaiden being dyslexic she persevered throughout her educational journey trying to reach her goals and was enrolled at Northampton University studying the Early Years Development of children. Jaiden wanted to carve out her career as a children's councillor, educator and advocator and with the support of her family she was able to wield autonomy.

Jaiden was fierce and unstoppable.

Jaiden, like many others with dyslexia, struggled daily, and found her journey hard - but yet she resiliently battled and never gave up even when she wanted to. Jaiden is a true inspiration.

Jaiden's hard work and dedication was recognised academically by Northampton University where she was awarded her Bachelor’s of Art Degree in Early Childhood Studies. We are extremely proud of her.

To honour Jaiden we have set up a foundation in her name to support those with dyslexia, mental health and those experiencing financial difficulty. It’s been a journey through grief, but our family and community have found that supporting others is what Jaiden would have wanted. That gives us strength everyday to try and make change no matter how big or small. We find gratitude in the small glimmers of hope and try to inspire those who need the encouragement and empowerment to keep pushing through their journey. No one should feel alone or left behind.

We support the hard work that the BDA do, to spread awareness surrounding dyslexia. They enable people to feel seen and heard and provide a range of resources to support those with dyslexia. It's advocating with a relentless approach.

If you could donate to my #marathonmummy JustGiving page, Jaiden's family would greatly appreciate your gesture and support.
